Moses Bukari Mabingba, Northern
regional Minister has lamented that Ghana could lose its credibility as a
shining example of democracy in Africa if citizens failed to commit themselves
to fighting indiscipline in society.
He complained that a cross-section
of Ghanaians have embraced acts of gross indiscipline ranging from intolerance,
impatience and violence as the solution to overcoming their developmental
challenges and said that practice was uncharacteristic of the Ghanaian.
Mr. Mabingba made this remark at
a reception organized by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council to climax
activities marking Ghana’s 53rd Independence Anniversary celebration
which attracted the clergy, politicians, chiefs, religious and opinion leaders
as well as former regional ministers and former DCE’s in the region.
The regional minister said self-discipline
will be the only panacea to the “Better Ghana” President John Evans Mills
promised Ghanaians.
He further called on religious
leaders, traditional authorities, teachers, the media and all professional
bodies to preach against what he termed “the monster called indiscipline”.
Mr. Mabingba described the year
2010 as action year and promised that the President Mills led NDC
administration’s goal is to reduce the hardships Ghanaians were going through
and make it possible for citizens to live decent lives.
Mr. Mabingba also announced his
plan to be in constant touch with all past regional ministers in the area to
tap their rich experience to develop the region in correlation with the government’s
“Better Ghana” agenda.
He however said Government’s
result orientation will largely depend on citizens commitment to deepen Ghana’s
democratic dispensation by being law abiding citizens.
