Leadership of the Ibo community
in Tamale has issued a disclaimer on one of its members called James Obioha who
prides himself as the chief of Ibos resident in the Northern region.
The leadership described Mr.
Obioha as a self-acclaimed chief and warned that any individual, group of
persons or companies who transacts business with him in that capacity does so
at their own risk.
Mr. Anthony Chukwu Onuvo, Public
Relations Officer of the Ibo union in Tamale told northernghana.com in an exclusive
interview that Mr. Obioha has been using some policemen in Tamale to harass and
victimize members believed to be having divergent views with him and said it
was generally unacceptable.
He recounted how Mr. Obioha on
February 27 February, 2010 caused the arrest and detention of one Michael
Ngwu a drinking spot operator who was released on police bail over some
misunderstanding that ensued between them at a chop bar.
Mr. Anthony said Ibos were law
abiding business oriented men who have no such intentions of destabilizing the
fragile peace of Tamale and that members were committed to the rule of law.
Vice Chairman of the Ibo Union,
Hisent Udomuke disclosed that Mr. James Obioha, the self acclaimed Ibo Chief in
Tamale ceased to be a member of the union for violating the standing orders.
According to him, Mr. Obioha was
fined GH ˘50 which he failed to pay and that necessitated his dismissal from
the union that seeks to promote the welfare of its members.
Mr. Chukwu Onuvo also reiterated
their zeal to live in peaceful co-existence with natives of Tamale and
cautioned against indecent behaviour that could tarnish the hard reputation of
Ibos.
